Brought up in a culture of avoiding the bad and doing the good as being ‘Christian’ one could easily be afraid or even reject the simplicity of the gospel of the Kingdom. The gospel of the Kingdom is as simple as it is profound. It is Christ in you, Christ’s Spirit manifest as you, Christ as your life. All of the gospel and hence all of the Kingdom of God and the expanding new creation hinges on this one thing: The vicarious humanity of Jesus. So, what is this? Just what has been written: Christ our life.
‘Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory’ Col 3.1-3 NIV. The new creation is Christ multiplied in people, in society, as the nations and as the regeneration of the earth. All this flows from something as simple as Christ our life.
IN HIM WE LIVE
All of us came forth from the Son of God. He not only created the world. Every person came forth from His being. Similarly, in Christ all are made alive. His resurrection is our resurrection and re-birth into glory – the glory of being who we are in spirit and in truth. This is to say that we are now alive as the expression of His person; alive as redeemed sons who came from the Son and who have been drawn back by the Son into the fellowship of the trinity. Jesus is indeed our alpha and omega.
‘I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty’ Rev 1.8 NIV.
In the new covenant age, Christ is our life. We are transfigured by Him and are the expression of His person. In God the Son, we are immersed in the Spirit of Sonship because we are in the Son and because we are one with our Father. Who then would want to live in something that is derivative and secondary like the law, a belief system or a religion, when we can be sons of God marinated in the living Spirit of Christ?
In Jesus you are in our Father and you are a son in Him.
Shepherd Mbate writes in Facebook, ‘I'm so glad that God's goodness is not based on your being theologically right, neither it is on your being right about Him; rather God's goodness is based on him being right about you. We boast not on how much we believe in him or love him, but how much he believes in us and loves us.’
This is so different to the contrived, institutionalised, attempted earning of entitlement to fellowship with our Father that we might attempt to generate through religion. The reality is simply Christ in you. The Kingdom of God is not a religion. It is the person of Jesus manifest and writ large in society. When we live Christianity as a religion we are not living the Kingdom. Not living it because the Kingdom of God is a person.
Firstly it is the person of Jesus who participates in our life in order that we may be immersed in His. Secondly He lives in us to impart Himself to us by the agency of Holy Spirit. Thirdly we are gifted the incarnation in order that heaven may be manifest in us, in the church and in the world.
‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!’ 2 Cor 5.17 NIV.
‘Write this letter to the angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen-the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's new creation’ Rev 3.14 NLT.
‘Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all’ Col 3.11 NIV.
Since believing we have become the habitation of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Before the cross we were sons notionally, neither at peace with ourselves or with God. Now He is our peace and the Sabbath rest of our souls. In Jesus your body, soul and spirit is one. You have a Sabbath life, not just a Sabbath day. You fellowship with God living in continual communion with the community of heaven. As well as this, the power of the Resurrection is incarnated in you because Jesus Himself is your life. He is life and all the qualities of life are incarnated in you to bubble up in your spirit, soul and body. You have trials over which you will be victorious and you have eternal life and fellowship with Jesus at the end of your body’s journey. What is there not to like about Christ who is your life in every possible circumstance? He is the only Way and the new and living way.
