You are not a function of law or morality. You are the expression of Jesus Christ. You are a daughter/ son. Many of us need to understand who we are, where we have come from and the fullness of our potential as individuals and as sons. Knowing ourselves as we are, we are empowered to be the church Jesus envisaged. The following quote comes from J Baxter Kruger’s novel, Patmos and before that from the book of John.
‘. . . and the Word was face to face with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning face to face with God. All things came into being by him; and apart from him nothing came into being that has come into being. In him life was; and the life was the light of men.’
Notice that this is the son and the Father. Understand that the Son’s ‘begotteness’ is a statement of being and not of time. Absorb the emphasis on face to face union with God. This is their essence and the essence of their fellowship and communion. The point is that it also describes our fellowship with God.
All that exists came into existence through The Word who is the Son and the logos – the reason and purpose of all that is. Jesus of Nazareth is this Word. He joins us to heaven and is the ‘way’ that heaven lives in humanity.
‘The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.’
JOINED TO LIFE
Jesus joins us to the Trinitarian source of infinite life and the correct understanding of all things. As Son of man and son of God Jesus is the completeness of our life and the light who reveals things as they really are rather than as they appear.
By receiving Jesus as our life we too possess this life – I mean the life described in the quote above. This is why John says, ‘Those who have the son have life. Those who do not have the son do not have life.’ I have seen both in people. Those in the former category have a quiet authority – the authority Jesus had as distinct from the purveyors of religion. Those in the latter category, as sincere and busy as they may be, remain dead men walking and semi-blind at that. I say remain for a reason.
Sometimes they remain because of poor teaching. They know no better. Other folks remain because they have a dog and bone attitude to what they already believe and understand. Like a politician who denies climate change and is obsessed with coal because it is old and represents the status quo from which he gets his identity and security they cling to the old covenant as if their life depends on it. Sadly it does. But what they have in the kingdom realm is not alive or enlightened. It is neither spirit or life – just marching up and down in the same spot. You have life and identity in Father that you may never find restricted to an attempted identity in the religion of your human father.
Don’t bury your treasure in the ground because you are stubborn and have chosen to live impervious to the light. You don’t have to live in denial as a born again person. Sure, you will get to heaven as a custodian of buried treasure but you will go there as a dead man/woman walking.
