Wholeness is found as we live move and have our being personally in God. Should we live in religion there is no doubt that we will live a compartmentalised life – separated in our minds from God and separated from our real self. Apart from God we are apart from ourselves, living out of mismatched fragments of our being as if this is normal. It is normal in the way of Adam but not the norm in the new and living way of Christ our life. Jesus sis not come among us as the law manifest. He came in the wholeness of I AM. He is the manifestation of the Father and of the sons of God.
To live in Christ is to live in God. To be in God is to be whole.
Jesus went about healing people in order to ‘make them whole.’ When the man asked Jesus to heal his dying daughter he asked that he come and make her whole. To be less than whole in any compartment of our life is to be somewhat dead. When Jesus makes us whole he restores our humanity to its fullness so that we live well, not only physically but our spirit and soul comes alive. But there is a surpassing ‘being made whole that Jesus is passionate about.’ He has abolished our separation from God and made us part of the family of the trinity. We are whole because we belong.
‘All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation’ 2 Cor 5.18 NIV.
Adam’s separation from God had always had more to do with the human mindset than how Father has thought about us. We were not abandoned before the cross. The re-union of our hearts, minds and being was planned for before the world was created. Our union was consummated by Jesus in His cross, His resurrection and the outpouring of the Spirit. This will reach its fulfilment in the future. But all of us can have infinitely more union with God today that most of us imagine. Union is the mode of new testament living.
‘For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation’ 2 Cor 5.19 NIV.
We have union with God and fellowship with our real selves and each other. By the One Spirit, which is what we are in by living in the Spirit of Christ, we are one with our Father. We each have the union Jesus enjoyed when He said, ‘I and My Father are one.’ All of us possess this when we choose to live by the mind of Christ instead of by the mind of fear and religion. You and God are not at logger-heads. There is no compartment where there is you in your corner and God in His. God is never somewhere else. You don’t have to enter His presence. He has entered yours and is forever with you. So abandon that pious ‘orphan spirit’ of pleading and cajoling. He had already received you and is with you and in you.
‘But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NIV. This is the Spirit of One, the spirit of union, wholeness and completeness.
It’s not hard to know God’s will if you are living a Jesus life. In Him you are one with the Father and He in you. So you know what Father is doing, what is on His heart. You need not have a vision or a dream to know this – although these gifts add focus and clarity and can be useful for confirmation. But you do not go about in a vacuum of God or separated from Him. You are not dependent on revelations that come from outside your being. In Christ you and Father are one. So let’s be done with ‘What would Jesus do?’ and ‘Keeping close to Jesus.’ You are one with Him by the One Spirit.
Francois Du Toit writes, ‘Faith is easy! We sometimes interpret, "To walk by faith and not by sight" as a very difficult, almost unnatural walk, yet it is the very mode of our being! We are wired to believe! Agape ignites faith spontaneously! If breathing had to be the reward of my diligent study of how the lungs function, and then my constant, conscious application and concentration, then we would override the ability of our design to breathe naturally and freely.’
Jesus said ‘My burden is easy’ because it is. Agree with what He has done. Live where He has placed you in the presence of Father, Spirit and Himself. Enjoy Father’s mentoring of you as a son/daughter. – Relax and just be. Be who you are in Christ and rejoice as yourself!
