THE TRINITY IN THE SONS OF GOD

SUBTLE55.001
Writing on the trinity, Athanasius declared, “In the Trinity there is no intrusion of any alien element or of anything from outside.. It is a wholly creative and energizing reality, self-consistent and undivided in its active power.”

The law of the spirit of life is the Christ of God. Don’t embrace the illusion that there is a law that is extrinsic to God. Nothing is extrinsic to the trinity. Christ is all and in all because God is all and in all. When John writes ‘In Him is life and that life is the light of all’ John is saying reality, and hence understanding is Christ – Christ who is one substance with God, Christ who is the logos and the One who joins us to His life in the trinity.

We have meaning and life in Christ. Many look for self-worth I work. We do well when we find it in Christ.

God is not an abstraction. God is person. God is life itself. Life itself is not an ‘it’ but the Communion that is the triune God. Jesus proclaimed Himself, the way, the truth and the life. By Him we are enfolded in the Communion that is God. Thus truth is all person and all Jesus. He is the way of truth and the truth that is the way. The truth is, that it is His life that is the only way that is alive and Jesus alone who joins us to our beginning and accompanies us to our destiny. In Jesus we find our alpha and omega and a middle that is always comfort, spirit and life.

TRUTH IN YOU

Jesus declared himself the truth. When we follow His instruction and agree with Him that He has interwoven us with God – we become the truth. We participate in all that is God. We become the truth of ourselves according to our design and we become true sons and daughters of God – not theoretically or notionally but in spirit and in truth. ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20. We are competent as new covenant ministers of God’s life and truth when we assist people into this inheritance.

TRUTH IS RELATIONSHIP

Thus truth is a person. Truth is personal and communal. It is the trinity and more to the point it is this trinity, this fullness of God in you and in us. It is Christ in you that empowers you to be you and for us all to be us – in spirit and in truth.

This is why any belief system that encloses itself in law is so out of whack with the nature of the universe – a universe whose mechanics, whose physics, chemistry and biology is all subsumed and held together IN PURPOSE in the law of the Spirit of life. This is the son of God and the logos: This is Jesus Christ who is the meaning and purpose of the universe in person and who makes the things we do meaningful.

Thus the life of God is described as a river and not a list of do’s and don’ts. You live in a flow that is a relationship of three. Fundamentalisms are a skeleton but the person of Jesus manifest as you and you as a companion of the trinity is a life.

NONSENSE PLURALISM

It’s curious how some who pump for theological relativism insist on the legitimacy of their own belief system. We can’t have both without ending in nonsense. There has to be another way and there is. It’s that truth is both person and relationship, which is what is meant by Paul’s “In Him we live and move and have our being.” Truth is known in God as we were before the fall and as we are now since the annulment of the fall at the cross. You were made to live in God and you can. Just say ‘I do.’ Richard Rohr writes,

REPENTING OF FALSE SOLIDITIES

“Stridently taking sides in a binary system has nothing to do with truth. The gospel itself is neither liberal nor conservative but severely critiques both sides of this false choice. The true good news of Jesus will never fill stadiums, because dualistic masses can never collectively embrace an enlightened “Third Way,” which, contemplatively speaking, always feels a bit like nothing..” (1) Many people imprison themselves in the law and its illusory substance because they think Christ our life IS NOTHING. The result is that their projects never become anything of substance.

Should we confine ourselves to the law of Moses or any kind of fundamentalism we have committed ourselves to this dualism. We are in a bifurcation of relations which is nothing other than the natural consequence of living from the knowledge of good and evil instead of living in our already owned union with God. When Paul tells us that Jesus made the two one, he means much for than unity between Jews and Gentiles.

TOGETHER IN HIMSELF

God did not create a world of compartments, of segmented realities and ity-bitty fragments. The whole is always greater than the sum of the parts whether we can see the whole or not. And we can if we live in union with God instead of the bits and pieces of the knowledge of good and evil. Contained in the old covenant we remain in the realm of the bits where we seek to assure ourselves that parts are not only greater than the whole but that our part is the whole. We can be like a person who cannot swim - desperately clinging to our raft as we are swept down the river to what looks like oblivion.

‘He is before all things, and in him all things hold together’ Col 1.17 NIV.

THE FALL RENEWED

The sacralising of compartments in time and place is the province of the religious mind that has not been liberated into the wholeness that is ours in union with God. The ascription of sacredness and life-giving power to Sabbaths and places like churches and temples is a fallacy that results from the fall and the compartmentalised mindset of separationist thinking. It’s a ‘fall’ mindset. There is no sacrament today that surpasses the trinity in you. There is no mediator other than Christ’s grace, spirit and life that flows through you from the trinity who is incarnated in your being. There is a sacrament par excellence however. It is you and your life every day.

THE PLAN

‘And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ--everything in heaven and on earth Eph 1.10 NIV. The plan is to bring everything together in Himself THROUGH YOU.

The kingdom mindset is a function of the incarnation in which God is always in us so that we ignite things with His life wherever we are and incorporate them into the belonging of God’s infinite life.

‘The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven’ Heb 1.3 NIV.

The blind, the deaf and the crippled asked Jesus to ‘make them whole.’ Jesus came among us to make us whole and through us to make the earth whole. Wholeness and truth are found in the person of Jesus and our interwoveness with God. Rohr writes again,

“Rational certitude is exactly what the Scriptures do not offer us. They offer us something much better and an entirely different way of knowing: an intimate relationship, a dark journey, a path where we must discover for ourselves that grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness are absolutely necessary for survival—in an always and forever uncertain world.” (2)
